Our international shipments travel DAP (Delivered At Place): we pay freight to your door and the receiver pays import duties and taxes when the carrier delivers.
You see it before you pay
In the Customs and duties step of checkout we show an itemized estimate:
- The duty on each part based on its tariff code and the trade agreement that applies.
- The destination's import taxes (VAT, GST or equivalent).
- The fee the carrier charges for advancing those payments to customs.
- The estimated total to pay on delivery.
Why we do not charge them upfront
We tried, and the result was worse for you:
- Carrier duty calculators charge the general rate without applying the trade agreement: a part that enters at 0% with its proof of origin was charged in full.
- Import taxes ended up in PREMSA's name and your company could not reclaim them.
- In the United States, an aluminum part was charged 200% because there was no way to declare where the metal was smelted.
With DAP you pay what customs actually assesses, in your name, and you can reclaim it. If customs charges something different from the estimate, that is between you and customs: we never invoice you afterwards.
What about Mexico?
Shipments within Mexico pay no duties. You pay for the parts, freight and VAT when ordering, and nothing on delivery.
For US shipments, see what duties parts made in Mexico pay.
