Key manufacturing characteristics of 7075 aluminum
- Aluminum-zinc alloy: 5.1–6.1% zinc, 2.1–2.9% magnesium and 1.2–2.0% copper.
- High strength: 572 MPa (83 ksi) tensile and 503 MPa (73 ksi) yield in the T6 temper.
- Machines very well: by CNC milling and CNC turning it breaks chips and leaves a clean finish.
- Not weldable: joined with fasteners, threaded inserts or press fits.
- Anodizes: type III (hard) anodizing is the most common way to protect it from wear and corrosion.
