FAQ
Aluminum is the most machined metal: it weighs a third of steel, doesn't rust like it, conducts heat well, and cuts fast, so an aluminum part usually costs less than the same part in steel or stainless. That's why it's used for brackets, housings, base plates, fixtures, prototype molds, and automation parts.
6061-T6 is the general-purpose alloy: good strength, excellent machinability, and it welds and anodizes very well. It's the default choice when the drawing doesn't call for something else. 7075-T6 is the high-strength alloy: nearly twice as strong as 6061, which is why it's used in molds, tooling, heavily loaded parts, and aerospace; it costs more, isn't welded, and its anodize color comes out less uniform.
Anodizing is aluminum's natural finish: an oxide layer that protects against corrosion and wear. Type II can be dyed (clear, black, red, blue, gold…) and Type III (hard) is thicker and more wear-resistant. Note: anodizing adds material, so tight dimensions and threads are accounted for from the design stage.
To order, upload your STEP or PDF drawing to the portal, choose 6061-T6 or 7075-T6, the finish, and the quantity, and order from 1 part.
