For a slip fit, draw both parts at the same nominal size and call out the ISO 286 H7/g6 fit on your drawing: H7 for the hole and g6 for the shaft. That way the parts slide and turn freely without losing their location.
Most common clearance fits
Example for a 10 mm nominal diameter:
Fit
Use
Hole
Shaft
Clearance
H7/h6
Locational: snug, easy to assemble and disassemble
10.000 to 10.015 mm
9.991 to 10.000 mm
0 to 0.024 mm
H7/g6
Sliding: moves and turns with precise location
10.000 to 10.015 mm
9.986 to 9.995 mm
0.005 to 0.029 mm
H8/f7
Precise running at moderate speed and pressure
10.000 to 10.022 mm
9.972 to 9.987 mm
0.013 to 0.050 mm
H9/d9
Free running, tolerates temperature changes and high speed
In your 3D model: Draw the hole and the shaft at the same nominal size, without modeling the gap. The fit defines the clearance.
On your drawing: Call out the fit on each dimension, for example “Ø10 H7” on the hole and “Ø10 g6” on the shaft.
When configuring your part: Under tolerance, choose “Specific tolerances (per drawing)” and upload your drawing. Engineering reviews every fit before confirming your price.
If we don’t make both parts
If your part mates with an off-the-shelf part, such as a bearing, pin or bushing, call out on your drawing the fit recommended by that part’s manufacturer.
For 3D printing
ISO fits apply to CNC machining. In 3D printing the clearance is drawn in your model: leave this gap between the two parts, per side:
Fit
Use
Clearance per side
Snug
Tight lids, alignment pins
0.10 to 0.20 mm
Sliding
Lids, drawers, telescoping parts
0.20 to 0.30 mm
Loose
Hinges, rotating parts
0.40 to 0.50 mm
A press fit is not reliable in 3D printing: layers and dimensional variation make the interference hard to predict. To secure a pin or bearing, use inserts or bond the part. If you need a precise fit, it’s better to machine your part.
