An engineering plastic replaces metal when the part needs low friction, low weight, electrical insulation, or chemical resistance, and when it shouldn't need lubrication. That's why the bushings, gears, pulleys, rollers, and guides in so many machines are nylon, Delrin, or UHMW.
Each plastic does something different: nylon 6 is tough and wear-resistant; Delrin (acetal) is stiff and holds its dimensions very well; PTFE (Teflon) has the lowest friction and resists almost any chemical; UHMW stands up to abrasion and impact; and PEEK works at temperatures where the others can't.
Machining plastic isn't like machining metal: the material heats up and deforms if it's cut wrong, it expands with temperature, and some, like nylon, absorb moisture. That's why sharp tooling, the right feed, and how the part is held all matter, and why a tight tolerance in plastic is confirmed per material.
To order, upload your STEP or PDF drawing to the portal, choose the plastic and the quantity, and order from 1 part. If you're not sure which plastic fits, tell us what the part is for and we'll help you choose.
