DFM (design for manufacturing) means checking whether a part can be made as drawn. The first review is automatic and runs on your model as soon as you upload it.
The eight checks
- File type: the format can be read and analyzed (STEP, STL or 3MF).
- Loose bodies: no floating bodies that are not joined to the part.
- Part size: it fits our machines.
- Model fidelity: the solid is closed and free of geometry errors.
- Number of shells: whether the file is a single part or an assembly.
- Max size for the finish: the part fits the finishing process you chose.
- Internal voids: closed cavities no tool can reach.
- Wall thickness: walls too thin for the process, highlighted on the part so you can see where.
Each check says whether it passes and why. A flag does not mean we cannot make your part: it means it is worth reviewing before manufacturing.
What a person reviews
For CNC machining, the engineer who confirms your price also reviews what depends on how the part will be held and cut: internal corner radii, hole depth, threads, tolerances against the drawing and number of setups. If something should change, we tell you before manufacturing, not after.
